The Forty-fourth Amendment to the Indian Constitution was passed during the two years that Shri Morarji Desai was prime minister. He became the oldest former head of state in history when he passed away at the age of 99.

Smt. Indira Gandhi, the nation’s first female prime minister, served two terms in that position.
